Jörg Reinhardt

Jörg Reinhardt (* 1956 ) has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis AG since 2013 . Since 2017 he has also been a board member of the Swiss reinsurance group Swiss Re .

Live and act

Reinhardt studied pharmacy at Saarland University and graduated in 1982 with a doctorate . He began his professional career in 1982 at Sandoz , which merged with Ciba-Geigy to form Novartis in 1996 .

At Sandoz he worked in research and development and became head of development in 1994. After the merger to form Novartis, Reinhardt was initially responsible for preclinical development across the group and then for all drug development. In 2008 he became Novartis' Chief Operating Officer.

From 2010 to 2012 he was Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer HealthCare AG and Chairman of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee.

From 2000 to 2010 Reinhardt was President of the Board of Trustees of the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation in the USA. From 2001 to 2004 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of MorphoSys AG in Germany and from 2012 to 2013 a member of the Board of Directors of Lonza Group AG in Switzerland.

Reinhardt is married and has two adult children. Since the end of his studies he has lived in Germany near Freiburg iB .
