politics

König has been a member of the AfD since March 2013. From March 2015 to January 2018, König was deputy state chairman of the AfD Lower Saxony . On January 19, 2018, the entire, divided state board was removed from office by the federal board and after a ruling by the AfD Federal Arbitration Court, because it "seriously violated the principles or the order of the party". The AfD Federal Arbitration Court mainly referred to the then deputy chairmen Jörn König and Wilhelm von Gottberg, who had called a state party conference without a board decision and misusing the AfD membership distribution list. “It remains to be stated that the invitation of the two deputy chairmen (König and Gottberg) is to be seen as an irresponsible solo effort to the detriment of the party. The constructive and well-intentioned attempt by the state chairman (Armin-Paul Hampel) by convening an express party congress to save the party convention convened in Hanover-Misburg on January 13/14, 2018 also failed. ”He has been a member of the board since April 2018 State board of the AfD Lower Saxony. He is the chairman of the northern regional group of the AfD parliamentary group .

König locates himself in the AfD as "relatively central, with a slight twist to the right, right-wing liberal". After his election to the Bundestag, he became chairman of the AfD parliamentary group in the sports committee and sports policy spokesman. He is still a deputy member of the Finance Committee , the Joint Committee and the Digital Agenda Committee .
