Júlio Tavares (born November 19, 1988 in São Miguel ) is a Cape Verdean football player .

Club career

Tavares began his career at a lower class club in Montréal-la-Cluse . This was followed in 2008 by a move to the fifth division club FC Bourg-Péronnas , with whom he rose to the fourth division in 2009. There he scored eight goals in the first season and 14 and 16 goals in the two following seasons. As a result, Tavares was signed by the second division FCO Dijon in July 2012 . He made his professional debut on September 14, 2012 when he was on the starting line-up in a 1-1 draw against AS Monaco . In the course of his first season at Dijon he became a regular player, scoring ten goals and placing him 13th in the statistics of the best scorers. The situation was similar in the following seasons, in the course of which he was usually set and regularly scored goals. In 2014/15 he fought for promotion with the FCO, but this was ultimately not achieved. In the following season 2015/16 he scored his best ever number of goals with eleven goals and helped his team to climb to the top French league.

National team

After moving to FCO Dijon, he was considered for the first time for the national team of Cape Verde in the 2012/13 season. He was also nominated for the 2013 African Championship , where he was used in all four games until they were eliminated in the round of 16. In the following time he was further considered for the eleven of his country. With this he was able to qualify for the African Championship 2015 and was called up in the group phase. Due to a poor goal difference against the DR Congo, the team only finished third and thus narrowly missed out on advancement.
