Jewish cemetery (Iserlohn)
The Iserlohn Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in the town of Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis . It has a size of around 1,850 m² and is located on the Dördelweg street . There are still eleven tombstones on it .
history
The Iserlohn Jews were previously not allowed to bury their dead within the city fortifications. The funerals therefore took place in front of the city wall in a waste yard near the thick tower . In 1743 a building was to be erected there. The cemetery therefore had to be abandoned. A new walled cemetery was built near the Gröfeken mine on the Dördel.
This cemetery was occupied in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was destroyed in 1938 during the Nazi era and restored after the Second World War .
Since February 10, 2005 it has been protected as an architectural monument.
