The Jewish cemetery in Osoblaha

The Osoblaha Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in Osoblaha (German Hotzenplotz , Yiddish Hotz'plotz , Polish Osobłoga ) in Okres Bruntál in the Moravskoslezský kraj region in the Czech Republic .

description

Jews found refuge in Osoblaha as early as the 14th century, and so did the Jews expelled from Vienna after 1670; A large Jewish community developed in Osoblaha (in 1865 Jews made up about 30% of the population), which existed until 1933. The cemetery was probably created in the 1st half of the 15th century. The oldest preserved graves date from the 2nd half of the 17th century. Numerous wooden tombs fell victim to a fire in 1802. The listed cemetery borders the city wall from the 16th century.
