Jewish cemetery (Sögel)
The Jewish cemetery Sögel is a Jewish cemetery in Sögel in the Emsland district in Lower Saxony . It is a protected cultural monument .
There are 67 tombstones in the “Am Loruper Weg” cemetery . The oldest is from 1835, the youngest from 1986.
history
For the year 1858 an area of 2120 m² is given for the cemetery. He was desecrated during the Nazi era . Presumably it was also devastated during the November pogroms in 1938 and tombstones were destroyed. In 1947 the cemetery was desecrated again. For 1952 an area of 3084 m² is given. It was repaired between 1952 and 1954. It has been owned by the State Association of Jewish Communities of Lower Saxony since 1959 , and the Sögel community has been responsible for cemetery maintenance since 1999.
