Entrance to the Jewish cemetery in Bühl

The Bühl Jewish Cemetery in the town of Bühl in the Rastatt district ( Baden-Württemberg ) was established in 1833. The cemetery is a protected cultural monument .

description

The cemetery was established in 1833 with the permission of the Grand Ducal Government of Baden, but against the will of the Buhler mayor's office. It is located in the former Gewann Honau at the end of Carl-Netter-Straße and has a size of 18.60 ares . There are still 345 tombstones ( Mazewot ) on the area surrounded by hedges .

As a result of the November pogroms in 1938 , the cemetery was desecrated. Many tombstones were overturned, smashed or removed. By decree from 1942, all metal parts, including the cemetery gates, were removed and given for recycling.

After the end of the Second World War , occasional burials were carried out in the cemetery. In 1958, the graveyard was cleared of the worst damage through a labor assignment by teachers and students from the Bühler Gymnasium (later Windeck Gymnasium). In 1961, the city of Bühl arranged for the cemetery to be completely renovated.
