The Jewish cemetery of the state institute Görden is a former Jewish cemetery on the site of the former state institute Görden (since 2006 Asklepios Fachklinikum Brandenburg) in Brandenburg an der Havel and one of two Jewish cemeteries in the city.

history

A separate cemetery for deceased patients of Jewish faith was built on the site of the original Görden state mental institution, later the Görden state institution. He immediately joined the Christian institution cemetery. The Jewish cemetery was laid out in the early 1920s. The first burial took place in 1922. In total, the cemetery was operated for 19 years and 46 people were buried. The last funeral took place under the National Socialists in 1941. During the time of the Nazi euthanasia program T4 on patients of the state institute, three Jewish patients died in Brandenburg an der Havel from 1940 and they were buried in the cemetery. According to hospital records, at least two of them were likely murdered.

After the burial ground had not been tended for decades, it became more and more overgrown with forest. The tombstones were lost. In 2006 the cemetery was restored. The cemetery area was reconstructed with funds from the State of Brandenburg amounting to 3500 euros. A memorial stone with German and Hebrew inscriptions was erected.
