Jürgen Borsch

Jürgen Borsch (born January 16, 1956 in Koblenz ) is a German diplomat . He has been Ambassador to Malawi since September 2016 .

Life

Jürgen Borsch passed his A-levels at the Eichendorff-Gymnasium in Koblenz in 1975 and entered the diplomatic service in 1976 after completing military service .

Borsch is married and has two children.

career

In 1976, Jürgen Borsch began training for the senior foreign service. After assignments abroad in the embassies in Warsaw and Damascus, he completed training for the higher foreign service from 1991 to 1993. This was followed by assignments as a consultant in the European department of the Foreign Office in Bonn (1993–1996), political consultant at the embassy in Washington (1996–1999) and consultant in the central department of the Foreign Office in Berlin (1999–2002).

From 2002 to 2005 he was consul at the Consulate General in Hong Kong and came to the Crisis Response Center in the Federal Foreign Office in 2005, until 2008 as deputy head of unit and from 2008 to 2013 as head of unit.

From 2013 to 2016, Borsch served as Consul General for Florida, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, based in Miami. In July 2015, Wikileaks announced that his name was on the list of people bugged by the NSA .

In September 2016 he was sent to Lilongwe ( Republic of Malawi ) as ambassador , where he succeeded Peter Woeste .
