Jürgen Lange (sports scientist)

Jürgen Lange-Amelsberg (* 1943 ) is a German sports scientist .

Life

Lange completed a degree in German studies, sports science, pedagogy and sociology, completed his doctorate in social and behavioral sciences in 1978, and in 1979 took up  a professorship for sports science (teaching and curriculum) at the University of Hamburg . He held this professorship until his retirement in 2009. Afterwards, Lange worked for a company in the field of organizational consulting and personnel development.

Lange's main research areas included sports journalism, spectator behavior, swimming (including in school lessons), sports in children's and youth homes, and the everyday school life of sports teachers. In 1999 he was one of the founders of the Hamburg Institute for Sports Journalism and was one of the initiators of direct football reports for the blind.
