Jānis Vitenbergs (2020)

Jānis Vitenbergs (* 1985 ) is a Latvian politician . He has been his country's Minister of Economics since April 2020.

Life

After graduating from school in Kandava in 2003, Jānis Vitenbergs initially trained as a tourist guide. He then studied tourism management at Liepāja University from 2005 and graduated in 2008 with a bachelor's degree . In the following years he worked for various Latvian companies as a salesman and commercial agent.

Political career

In the parliamentary elections in 2018 he stood as a candidate for the KPV LV and was able to win a seat in parliament ( Saeima ) for them. There he was sent by his party to the economic committee and subsequently took over the chairmanship there. When his party friend Ralfs Nemiro resigned as minister in spring 2020, Vitenbergs switched to the government and was sworn in as the new economics minister in the Kariņš cabinet on April 2 .
