J-dag

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The J-dag was first advertised by Tuborg in 1990 as part of the market launch of the Julebryg beer (Christmas brew).

J-dag in Denmark is the day on which Danish breweries start selling their Christmas beer. The J stands for the Danish word jul or julebryg , which means Christmas or Christmas brew . In addition to the J-dag, there is the P-dag at Easter (påske).

Many breweries distribute free beer and promotional items in pubs and discos on the occasion of the market launch of their Christmas beer .

The name refers to D-Day .

In 1990 it was the Tuborg Brewery that proclaimed a J-dag for the first time. Since then, this has been proclaimed every year on the second Wednesday in November at 11:59 p.m.

In 1999, the J-dag was brought forward to the first Friday in November at 8:59 p.m. This happened after an agreement between Tuborg and the brewery association, since allegedly numerous students did not go to school on Thursday after the beer was sold.

In 2009 the J-dag was moved again to the last Friday in October. Since 2010 it has been celebrated on the first Friday in November.

The traffic police regularly conduct alcohol checks on the evening of J-dag.

Alternative J-dag

Since 2003, numerous pubs and microbreweries have been celebrating their own J-dag, the so- called ØJ-dag day of beer enthusiasts. It is celebrated on the first Thursday in November.
