The company JW Ostendorf (JWO) has been manufacturing paints and varnishes for hardware stores and retailers since it was founded in 1948 by Josef W. Ostendorf. JWO is one of the leading manufacturers in the industry for paints, varnishes, glazes and employs over 700 people at home and abroad. In addition to the subsidiary "Renaulac" in Cestas, a city in France (with over 120 employees), which was taken over by Ostendorf in 2012, the headquarters are in Coesfeld.

Ostendorf develops brands and produces colors under proper names for large companies across Europe. The largest partnership in the German market is with the hardware store "toom". Other hardware stores supplied include Hellweg and BayWa.

The paint factory consists of two plants and a log port. The area is approximately 30,000 square meters.

JWO has been part of Hempel A / S since October 1, 2018, as the Danish group acquired 65% of the shares in order to advance their global growth strategy. Hempel is a leading global supplier of coating solutions for the decoration (interior and object design), industry (corrosion protection), shipping, container and yacht markets and has been in business for over 100 years. Hempel employs more than 6,000 people worldwide.

The focus for the company is eco-efficiency, which enables the best possible, environmentally friendly and sustainable production. JWO has had a goods distribution center with approx. 65,000 pallet spaces right at the factory since 2008 in order to enable goods to be exported quickly. There are also high-quality model rooms for customer presentations in the form of simulated hardware stores.

history

In 1948 the company was founded by Josef W. Ostendorf for the production of emulsion paints, varnishes and building protection agents in Coesfeld . In 1968 JWO (JW Ostendorf GmbH) won the first DIY stores for its own products. Due to the growth, production was relocated to a 30,000 square meter site in the south of Coesfeld in 1971. In 1991 a new emulsion paint factory and in 1997 a new fully automatic production plant for tinted emulsion paints was put into operation. In 2002, JWO was the only paint manufacturer in Europe to be certified according to the food industry methodology. In 2006, the JWO premises were expanded to include a modern 10,000 m² hall.
