J. Barry Cooke

J. Barry Cooke (born April 28, 1915 , † April 21, 2005 ) was an American civil engineer in the field of geotechnical engineering and internationally known as an expert on rock rubble dams.

Cooke was responsible for the design of 18 hydroelectric dams and advised on numerous others worldwide. The rock embankment with concrete cladding goes back to him . He lived in London.

In 1982 Cooke was the 18th Terzaghi Lecturer of the American Society of Civil Engineers with the course "Progress in Rockfill Dams". He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering and since 2000 honorary member of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD).
