Jabber (Ethernet)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Jabber (of English: "chatter") are parties to a network like Ethernet refers to which data packets longer than the allowable maximum transmission unit ship (MTU). This corresponds to a faulty state and can lead to network disturbances.

The cause can be a defective or incorrectly configured network card, for example the activation of jumbo frames on one of the devices involved in the network. A jabber can completely paralyze parts of a network, at least the collision domain , which is why some network switches have Jabber detection and can remove those participants with Jabber from the network segment for a certain time or permanently.
