Jaboti

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jaboti is a South American indigenous language .

It is spoken by the Arikapu , a small people in Rondônia , a state of Brazil . Since the young Arikapu prefer to learn Portuguese, Spanish or English than Jaboti and the people themselves only consist of about a dozen members, the language, like other indigenous languages, is threatened with extinction.

The Arikapu are an almost unknown people who have not been thoroughly researched. Between 1933 and 1935, Emil Heinrich Snethlage was one of the first to study them and their language on his own research trips.
