Jaboulay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jaboulay also Bigarreau de Lyon , Hative de Lyon , Ramon Oliva , or Kösters Black from Pious is a dark variety of sweet cherries .

origin

The variety was found in 1822 by tree nursery owner M. Jaboulay in Oullins among wildlings that had not accepted the grafting. It is widespread in Europe.

fruit

The fruit is large, variable, sometimes elongated, sometimes wider, flattened above and below, also heart-shaped, angular-looking. The skin is unevenly dark purple red. The pulp is dark red around the stone, very variable in taste. It is initially firm like a cartilaginous cherry, but when fully ripe it is very soft, like a heart cherry, which is why the experts do not agree on which variety it belongs. The burst resistance is low. The stone is large, variable with a smooth surface. The stem is medium-long, about 4 cm, medium-thick and green, the base of the stem is medium-sized. It ripens in the 2nd to 3rd cherry week.

tree

The tree grows very strongly, with a broad crown, with sloping leading branches. It is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. Schneider's late cartilage cherry , Hedelfinger , Büttner's red cartilage cherry or Kassin's early heart cherry are suitable . It blooms mid-early to medium with slightly reddish leaves.
