Kassin's early heart cherry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kassin's early heart cherry is a dark red variety of sweet cherries belonging to the heart cherries . It is one of the earliest cherries in Germany.

origin

The variety was discovered by the fruit grower Wilhelm Ludwig Kassin in Werder in 1868 as a chance seedling. Due to its very early ripeness and high yields, it was long one of the most important varieties in commercial cultivation , but was then replaced by the larger-fruited Burlat . It is still very strongly represented in the orchards .

fruit

The fruit is medium-sized, broadly heart-shaped. The soft skin is black-red when fully ripe and medium-red when half-ripe. The flesh is dark red when fully ripe, quite firm for a heart cherry and very aromatic when fully ripe. It has high burst resistance. The stone is medium-sized, roundish-oval, slightly asymmetrical. The stem is long, about 4.5 cm, green, slightly reddish on the sunny side with a medium-sized stem attachment. It ripens in the 1st to 2nd cherry week , at a time when there are usually no problems with the cherry fruit fly .

tree

The tree is very healthy and robust, grows strongly with steep to sloping leading branches. The crown is large and spherical to broadly spherical with noticeably elongated leaves. It is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. Suitable Large Black cartilage cherry , Büttners Red cartilage cherry , Royal Ann Cherry , Dönissens yellow cartilage cherry , Schneider's late cartilage cherry or Hedelfinger . It flowers mid-early, together with some (slightly reddish) leaf shoots at the beginning of flowering. The yield is high and regular.
