Burlat (cherry)
Burlat , also Bigarreau Burlat or Hativ Burlat is a dark red variety of sweet cherries belonging to the heart cherries . Due to its very early maturity with high yields, it is one of the most important varieties in commercial cultivation today .
origin
The variety was discovered in 1915 by the farmer Leonardo Burlat as a chance seedling in Pierre-Bénite in the Rhône Valley in southern France .
fruit
The fruit is medium to large in size, broadly rounded, sometimes oblong, flat with bumps when viewed from the side, looking angular. The soft skin is dark brown-red when fully ripe, dark red when half-ripe. The flesh is dark red, medium firm, when fully ripe, somewhat softer and when half ripe it is sweet, when fully ripe, mainly sweet, little acidity, moderately aromatic. It has a medium burst resistance. The stone is medium-sized, oblong-oval, with clear hooks and folds on the stem side. The stem is medium-long, about 3.5 cm, green, with a medium-sized stem attachment. It ripens easily in the 1st to 2nd cherry week , at a time when problems with the cherry fruit fly usually do not yet occur.

The tree grows medium to strong with sloping, upright leading branches. The crown is spherical to broad spherical. Vulnerable to Monilia and Shotgun . It is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. Kordia , Büttner's Red Cartilage Cherry , Great Princess or Hedelfinger are suitable . It flowers mid-early, at the beginning of flowering together with little (slightly reddish) leaf shoots. The yield is high and regular.
