Jacques Paisible

Jacques Paisible , also called James Paisible , (* around 1656 probably in Versailles , † in August 1721 in London ) was a French recorder player and composer .

Life

Jacques Paisible came from a family of musicians working at the French court, he came to England around 1673 with the French composer Robert Cambert . It was first mentioned in connection with the performance of Masque Calisto by Nicholas Staggins († 1700). From 1677 Paisible was court musician and from 1685 he belonged to King's Musick under James II . In 1693 he was the court composer of the future King George of Denmark in London, until his coronation in 1702.

Paisible composed some stage works for several London theaters and various collections of flute music and dances. Paisible compositions are virtuoso and in the French style; Italian influences only become noticeable in the late work.
