Jagry

Coordinates: 64 ° 36 ′  N , 39 ° 49 ′  O Jagry ( Russian Ягры ) is an island near the summer coast of the White Sea at the mouth of the Northern Dvina River. The Svjosdotschka ( Звздочка ) repair yard is located on the island belongingto the city of Severodvinsk .

history

  • On August 24, 1553, the only undestroyed ship of Hugh Willoughby's expedition , the "Edward Bonaventura", moored on Jagry , the captain of which was Richard Chancellor.
  • From April 13, 1938 to January 24, 1953, the Jagrinski-ITL (also: Jagrinlag) labor camp of the NKVD existed on the island , whose inmates (maximum 31,200 people) were used to build a shipyard and to rebuild the city. After its closure, it became a warehouse department in the UITLK of the MWD administration in the Arkhangelsk region .
