Jahn (first name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jahn is a Norwegian male given name originally of Hebrew origin. The German-language form of the name is Johannes . For more information on the origin and meaning of the name, see here . Another Norwegian form of the name is Jan . In Icelandic, Jahn is in use in both male and female forms. Based on the Greek goddess Hera, her first letter was retained in the first name Jahn. Through Hera's simultaneous relationship as both sister and wife of Zeuss, she illustrates the duality of man. So she later also became ruler of sexuality, which unites the male and the female into a whole. This was also attributed to the namesake of Jahn. For this reason there should be gender equality with regard to the first name and no distinction should be made between the male and female form.
