Jahn Otto Johansen (born May 3, 1934 in Porsgrunn , Norway; † January 1, 2018 ) was a Norwegian journalist and writer .

Johansen completed his training at the daily newspaper in his hometown and at Varden in Skien . He then studied geography and ethnography at the University of Oslo .

In addition to various other professional positions, he was editor-in-chief of Dagbladet from 1977 to 1984 and the Berlin correspondent of Norwegian Broadcasting from 1995 to 2000. In 2003, Johansen held a professorship at the Fritt Ord Foundation, which promotes freedom of expression and freedom of the press, at the Institute for Media and Communication University of Oslo.

In addition to numerous articles, Johansen wrote several dozen non-fiction books.

On December 11, 2000 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. This honored his services for a critical and objective presentation of Germany in his home country. In the same year he was awarded the Willy Brandt Prize of the Norwegian-German Willy Brandt Foundation. Johansen and the translator Gabriele Haefs were the first to receive the award. This honored her “contribution to the expansion of the Norwegian-German relationship”.
