The year of consecrated life is a theme year of the Roman Catholic Church from the first Advent (November 30th) 2014 to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (February 2nd) 2016. The theme year was initiated by Pope Francis on February 2nd, 2014 by of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and for Societies of Apostolic Life with the Rallegratevi circular (“Rejoice!”) to all consecrated people . With his Apostolic Exhortation for the Year of Consecrated Life of November 21, 2014, Pope Francis proclaimed the Year of Consecrated Life . The motto of the year is: Vita consecrata in Ecclesia hodie (“consecrated life in the Church today”).

In his letter, the Pope highlighted the aims of the Year of Consecrated Life, in particular to look back on the past with gratitude, to live in the present with devotion and to embrace the future with hope.

The year of consecrated life logo, which features a dove flying over the water, is intended to express the fundamental values ​​of consecrated life. In addition to the dove, which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit , three stars float above the water as a symbol of the Trinity and above the wing of the dove a ball depicted in red mosaic as a symbol of the world. The logo bears the inscriptions Vita consecrata in Ecclesia hodie and the words Evangelium , prophetia and spes (“Gospel, Prophecy, Hope”) below each other .

The first Sunday in Advent is also the beginning of a new church year . The year 2015 was also chosen with a view to the 500th anniversary of the Doctor of the Church Teresa of Avila . The year of consecrated life was opened the evening before with a prayer vigil and on the first Sunday of Advent with a Holy Mass by Cardinal Joao Braz de Aviz in St. Peter's Basilica. At the end of the year of consecrated life, a prayer of thanks is to take place on January 30, 2016 in St. Peter's Basilica . The feast of the Presentation of the Lord, which closes the 2016 Year of Consecrated Life, is also the annual World Day of Spiritual Vocations.
