The turn of the century house

Building history and architecture

It is already present on a postcard from 1904. So house no.14 in Kirchstrasse must have been built around 1900. In terms of architectural style, it is a "follower" of historicism . It is painted white and is nicely structured by red bricks . They frame the arched windows, the front door, the decorative gable and mark the corners of the wall. Inside, the old floor tiles, the doors and the wooden staircase have been preserved in the entrance area. The building has certain similarities with the house at Beisselstrasse 5 and could therefore go back to the same builder . In 1911 Wilhelmina Gerken, nee Schrock, who was widowed at an early age, lived in this house. Franz Gerken. She belonged to the upper class .

Wilhelmina Gerken used the first two floors herself, the top floor was occupied by her three servants . In 1924, the building became the property of the Rottländer family, whose daughter Auguste was married to the bailiff Friedrich Brüll. Auguste Brüll remained the owner until 1970.

Todays use

After several changes of ownership, there is now a hairdressing salon in the basement.
