Services

Jaime Collyer is considered one of the leading personalities of the “ nueva narrativa chilena ”, an unclearly defined literary movement in Chilean literature of the 1990s. In 1992, his polemical article "Casus belli" served in the APSI magazine as one of the few manifestos of the young generation of writers who were not organized in an institutionally.

Collyer's importance as a writer is based primarily on his short stories , which thematically and narratologically follow the tradition of the great Latin American storytellers - above all Jorge Luis Borges . What is noticeable is the effort to leave the limited horizon of Chile and avoid a “regionalist” spelling. Collyer's novels are much more controversial. In 1995, “Cien pájaros volando” caused a minor scandal, as the subject of sodomy was played too clearly here.
