Jaipur Literature Festival

The Jaipur Literature Festival takes place once a year in January in the city of Jaipur , Rajasthan in India and is considered the largest literature festival in Asia .

History of origin

The event was initiated by the writer and historian William Dalrymple in 2006. The Jaipur Literature Festival emerged from the Jaipur Heritage International Festival 2006 and has grown year after year since then.

The "Diggi - Palace Hotel" serves as the center of the festival. Miranda Seymour called the festival "the greatest (literary) festival of all" in an article for the Mail on Sunday . Authors from all over the world take part. In 2009 the list of participants included over 200 Indian and international authors.

The events of the festival are free of charge.

The festival directors are currently the writers Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple.
