Jakob Baumgartner

Jakob Baumgartner (born November 18, 1926 in Montlingen , † September 14, 1996 in Immensee ) was a Swiss liturgist .

Baumgartner was born in Montlingen as the son of a blacksmith and the eighth of ten children. In 1948 he passed the Matura at the higher commercial school in Neuchâtel. In 1950 he entered the novitiate of the Mission Society of Bethlehem-Immensee (SMB). In 1957 he was ordained a priest. With Balthasar Fischer in Trier he received his doctorate in 1968 with the two-volume dissertation Mission and Liturgy in Mexico . From 1969 to 1991 he taught as professor for liturgical science at the University of Friborg . On September 19, 1996, he was buried in the cemetery of the Immensee Mission House.
