Jacob Cross

Jacob Cross

The Jakobskreuz is a red lily cross with the character of a weapon. In contrast to the glaive cross , which has the shape of the heraldic lily on four cross arms , it is only shaped like this on two arms; the lower and upper cross arms resemble a dagger or sword or a spear.

The cross is the sign of the Spanish Order of Saint James of the Sword (Santiagoorden).

Many places formerly dominated by the Santiagoorden have the Jacob's cross in the local coat of arms (e.g. Ulea or Blanca in the Murcia region ). The coat of arms of Caracas shows a lion holding the Jacob's cross.
