Jaktation (Latin for tossing around , tossing around ; also: jactatio ) is the name given to the pathological restlessness in feverish people, in people with delirium , cognitive disabilities , hospitalism , or also in autism or behavior disorders . In general, it is often found in neglected or lonely people. Jaktation occurs more often in children up to ten years of age, less often in older ones.

Symptoms and ailments

Those affected throw their bodies back and forth in bed, rock, rock or bob monotonously or rhythmically up and down. The most common sub-forms are distinguished:

  • Jactatio corporis describes rocking, rocking or rocking with the whole body. The pagoda wobbling as a sub-form is named after the movements of the Chinese priests in front of their idols. It is characterized by the slow bending back and forth of the upper body
  • in jactatio capitis movement is limited to the head

B. on the playground or in the hammock . Jaktationen, on the other hand, occur almost exclusively when the person concerned is alone, e.g. B. falling asleep. treatment

Treatment depends on the causes and severity. In the case of neglect, it consists primarily of emotional attention. If there is organic brain damage, curative educational or behavioral therapy methods are used. In serious cases and when there is a risk of self-harm, depressant medication such as neuroleptics or antidepressants can be administered.
