Jakub Julian Ziółkowski

Jakub Julian Ziółkowski (* 1980 in Zamość , Poland ) is a Polish painter.

Ziółkowski lives and works in Kraków . He completed his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow . His paintings and watercolors show a dynamic and surreal imagery that includes landscapes, architectural and figurative objects, still lifes and portraits. Ziółkowski creates hallucinatory worlds that are inhabited by strange and dynamic forms and are reminiscent of the surrealistic imagery of Henri Rousseau . The pictures oscillate between abstraction and figuration.

Ziółkowski had solo exhibitions a. a. at Hauser & Wirth London (2006), at Fundacja Galerii Foksal (2005) and at the Academy of Fine Arts Krakow (2004). In addition, his work was shown in 2006 in the exhibition “Sculpture, Installation and Painting from Poland” at the Kunstverein Bielefeld and the Kunstverein Nürnberg . In the central exhibition of the 55th Art Biennale in Venice (2013) Ziółkowski is represented with nine oil paintings.
