Jalco Cup

The Jalco Cup was a football competition held from 1951 to 1959 between the national teams of the Gold Coast or Ghana and Nigeria . The Nigerian company Joe Allen & Co. acted as sponsor of the competition.

In 1960 the competition was replaced by the Nkrumah Cup , named after Ghana's President Kwame Nkrumah . Teams other than Ghana and Nigeria were also eligible to participate.

Nigeria qualified with two wins over Dahomey (1-0 and 10-1).

Ghana, Mali , Senegal and Nigeria (3: 1 and 2: 1 over Cameroon and 1: 1 and 4: 1 over Dahomey) had qualified for the final round of the tournament . In the semi-finals, Ghana won against Nigeria (5-0) and Mali against Senegal (3-1); the game for third place finally won Nigeria 4-0 over the Senegalese.

In 1965 the competition was replaced by the Azikwe Cup , named after Nigeria's President Nnamdi Azikwe . Again, only the teams from Ghana and Nigeria competed against each other in two games.
