James Bond Jr. is a 65-part US animated television series starring James Bond Junior , James Bond's nephew . It had its TV premiere in the USA on September 16, 1991 and was produced by the production company Murakami Wolf Swenson. In Germany , the series ran for the first time on April 9, 1994 on Sat.1 .
action
The 17-year-old James Bond Junior attends the private Warfield Prep School , England's top school for future agents, and fights against the terrorist group SCUM ( Saboteurs and Criminals United in Mayhem ) with the support of his friends Tracy, IQ and Gordo Leiter . In reference to his famous uncle, his catchphrase is always “Bond, James Bond. Junior."
Characters
main characters
The various members of Warfield Academy, including James Bond Jr., his friends, Trevor Noseworthy, and two faculty members, are all an integral part of the series and appear in almost every episode. Sometimes James only accompanies two or three of his friends on his adventures, the others mostly stay behind on Warfield and tell a secondary storyline, usually about Trevor's ill-conceived attempts to get James into trouble.
- James Bond Junior: He's the hero of the series. James has dark brown hair that is blown to a quiff. Like his famous uncle, he has a soft spot for good-looking girls. Usually he is saved from dangerous situations by equipment or sheer luck instead of freeing himself with the help of his own skills. A romance is sometimes suggested between him and Tracy.
- Horace Boothroyd: Horace is the grandson of Q and better known as IQ . He is the thinker and inventor in the group around James Bond Junior, which is why he always comes up with new devices. But when things get dangerous, IQ always holds back elegantly. In the German translation, his nickname was changed to Einstein .
- Tracy Millbanks: Tracy is the daughter of the Headmaster of Warfield Prep School . She is intelligent, daring, and ready to take on leadership roles. However, she is not that fond of James' adventures. The latter, in turn, is secretly in love with her - an affection that Tracy does not return.
- Gordo Leiter: Gordo is a tanned Californian surf enthusiast with long blond hair and Felix Leiter's son. He lacks common sense, while his looks and laziness are greatest to him.
- Phoebe Farragut: Phoebe is short, bespectacled, intelligent and beguiled by the opposite sex, e.g. B. from James, who hardly notices them.
- Trevor Noseworthy IV: Trevor is haughty, jealous, and yet pitiful. He struggles for attention through his dubious talents or tries to undermine the reputation of others, especially James.
- Mr Bradford Millbanks: He is a steadfast but unbalanced gentleman with gray hair and a mustache who looks like a former Royal Air Force officer.
- Mr Burton Mitchell: Mr Mitchell is the school's PE teacher and was a former FBI agent. In this role he has already worked with the real James Bond .
Opponent
In the series there are a number of opponents who mostly work for SCUM and appear regularly along the 65 episodes. Some characters are very similar to their cinematic counterparts.
- SCUM-Lord: Is the mysterious leader of SCUM, who is rarely seen outside of the terrorist organization. He usually gives his commands to other SCUM members via telescreen. He has a dog named Scuzzball who often sits by his side.
- Dr. No : Is one of Bond Jr.'s most devious opponents. He has cybernetic arm prostheses and green skin, which could be because he sank into a nuclear reactor during a fight with 007 (see: James Bond - 007 is chasing Dr. No ). His Asian ancestry is particularly emphasized by his accent, clothing and beard. In addition, his henchmen are mostly ninjas and samurai swords are among his preferred weapons.
- Dr. DeRange: Is a brilliant but completely mad scientist and criminal thought leader with a strong French accent. DeRange is the most common antagonist in the entire series. His henchmen are mainly iron cap or kissable mouth and water flea .
- Goldfinger: Is probably the cleverest and most manipulative opponent of James Bond Jr. Wherever gold is involved, Goldfinger is not far away. His crimes are determined by his insatiable greed for more and more gold. His sidekick is usually an odd job .
- Goldie Finger: Is the failed daughter of Goldfinger . She is in no way inferior to her father when it comes to greed for gold. When she's not working with him, she prefers to work with Barbella .
- Baron Von Skarin: The super rich Bavarian baron is an international terrorist and arms smuggler. Despite his cruel nature, he does not do without an elegant appearance. He usually dresses in expensive fur coats and wears a monocle in his right eye. He also seems to be one of SCUM-Lord's favorite agents as he often reports to him personally.
- Captain Walker D. Plank: With his eye patch and hooked hand, it's almost the cliché of a pirate captain. Significantly, his crimes are always related to looting and the like and usually take place on the high seas. Most of the time, Kussmund works for him.
- Chameleon: Is the code name of a dangerous criminal genius. Thanks to nanotechnical sensors surgically implanted under his skin, he can mimic the appearance of any person. Its only weak point is water because it creates short circuits in its sensitive sensors. Chameleon doesn't work for SCUM, but tried to sell them a military weapon when he first appeared.
- Odd Job: One of SCUM's most dangerous henchmen. His trademark is his hat with a razor-sharp brim, which he tosses like a boomerang. Originally the character was mute as in the movie (see: James Bond 007 - Goldfinger ), but in the further course of the series he was suddenly able to speak. He works primarily for Goldfinger and Dr. No .
- Jaws: Is a stooge of higher-ranking SCUM agents. What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for with his gigantic stature and physical strength. His trademark is a bit made of steel, which even the hardest materials cannot withstand. There is usually a water flea at his side . His name was changed to Kussmund for the German translation .
- Nick-Nack: One of SCUM's henchmen Due to his very small body size, he is often a target for "short" jokes, either from James Bond or his partner Kussmund , with whom he works most of the time, depending on the current SCUM- Plan. For the German translation, his name was changed to Wasserfloh .
- Barbella: Is a very spirited, almost superhumanly strong bodybuilder. She is grouchy and hates everything and everyone. When she doesn't work for Goldie Finger, she has to deal with the incompetence of the kissable mouth and the water flea .
- Iron cap: is one of the top assassins of SCUM. It owes its name to the massive steel plate that covers the entire top of the skull. His clients are mostly Baron Von Skarin or Dr. DeRange .
background
As an animated series, it surpasses the real-life Bond films in terms of exaggerated gadgets and crazy scientists , but the violence of the adult Bond series is nowhere evident. Despite apparent resemblances to Ian Fleming's James Bond novels , the broadcast was tolerated by the James Bond rights holders.
James Bond fans usually do not consider James Bond Jr. part of the official Bond canon, especially since Bond is just a child in this constellation and the series features characters like Dr. Julius No takes up that have been covered in other Bond films or books before. Other familiar faces find their way into this series, including Jaws, a recurring villain from the Roger Moore era, mostly in company with Nick Nack, with whom he forms an eternally bickering comedy duo. Even Auric Goldfinger gets an appearance, just like in James Bond 007 - Goldfinger even with his servant Odd Job. In the sense of the “rejuvenation” of the Bond stories, which is evident here, it is revealed that Goldfinger has a teenage daughter named Goldie Finger with equally exclusive preferences. Many of the episode titles are allusions to Bond films, e.g. B. Live and Let's Dance .
