James Douglas, 3rd Earl of Morton
James Douglas, 3rd Earl of Morton (* before 1495 , † 1553 ) was a Scottish nobleman from the Douglas family .
James Douglas was a son of John Douglas, 2nd Earl of Morton and his wife Janet Crichton. When his father died in 1513, he inherited him as 3rd Earl of Morton in 1513. In 1507 at the latest he married Katherine Stewart (around 1494 – around 1554), an illegitimate daughter of the Scottish King James IV from his connection with Marion Boyd.
Since the Earl only had daughters, the Earldom Morton passed to his son-in-law James Douglas of Pittendreich in 1553 .
The daughters of the 3rd Earl of Morton were:
- Margaret (around 1510–1579), ⚭ 1532 James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran
- Beatrix († after 1583), ⚭ 1530 Robert Maxwell, 5th Lord Maxwell
- Elizabeth, ⚭ 1543 James Douglas of Pittendreich , who succeeded his father-in-law as 4th Earl of Morton.
