James G. McCarthy
James G. McCarthy or Jim McCarthy (* 1952 ) is an American theologian, Bible teacher and author, former Catholic and now Evangelical Christian. James G. McCarthy is a co-founder of Good News for Catholics , a former Catholic organization founded in California in 1981.
McCarthy grew up in San Francisco as the son of Irish immigrants. In his early twenties he left the Catholic Church because he was unable to reconcile its teachings with his understanding of the Bible . Today he is an elder in an evangelical free church. His book Letters between a Catholic and Evangelical was published in 2003 in collaboration with John Waiss, an Opus Dei priest with whom he has been friends since his studies. Both present their different views on Catholic theology. McCarthy is married with three children.
