James Goodnight
James (Jim) Goodnight (born January 6, 1943 in Salisbury , North Carolina ) is an American entrepreneur .
Life
Goodnight studied computer science at North Carolina State University in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . When research funding was cut in 1976 while he was an assistant professor at the university, he founded the SAS Institute together with Anthony Barr , John Sall and Jane Helwig to analyze data, which he will continue to lead in 2019 after more than 40 years of existence. The company is one of the most popular employers in the US and, thanks to Goodnight, it didn't behave like the bulk of companies; the cleaning staff as well as the security staff were permanently employed at SAS. According to Forbes Magazine , Goodnight is one of the richest 100 Americans. Goodnight is married and has three children.
