Anthony Barr (* 18th March 1992 in South Bend , Indiana ) is an American American football poker players. He currently plays for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL) as an outside linebacker .

High school

Barr attended Loyola High School in Los Angeles . He was particularly impressive as a running back for the football team when he ran 1890 yards in his first season, as well as in athletics, where he was one of California's top athletes in both sprinting and pole vaulting. He was considered one of America's best young players. Barr received numerous offers from various colleges and ultimately chose the University of California, Los Angeles .

college

Barr started playing his first two years in college as a running back, tight end, and wide receiver from 2010 . It wasn't until 2012 that he decided to play as a linebacker , and in 2012 he had a terrific season with 13.5 sacks and 21 tackles with loss of space. Only Jarvis Jones achieved more sacks this season. Although he was considered the first round pick for the NFL Draft as a junior , he decided to play another year at UCLA and performed similarly.

NFL

In the NFL Draft 2014, he was selected in the first round as the ninth player by the Minnesota Vikings , making him the highest-ranked linebacker in UCLA history. Barr was awarded a four-year contract for more than $ 12.5 million. In 2014 he played and started in the first 12 games of the season from the beginning and was able to achieve 70 tackles and four sacks, but missed the last four games due to injury.

Overall, Barr was able to perform consistently well in his second season. On the first day of the game he was able to score twelve tackles against the San Francisco 49ers , including a stop by running back Carlos Hyde four yards behind the line of scrimmage . On the fourth day of the game he managed his first interception against the Denver Broncos . Despite breaking his left hand in week seven, on Matchday 12 against the Atlanta Falcons, he became the first Vikings player since 1993 to hit a sack, eight tackles and two forced fumbles in one game. The two fumbles were particularly important when he was able to prevent a 46-yard run in the former by knocking the ball out of the arm of rookie Tevin Coleman from behind and in the latter quarter, quarterback Matt Ryan knocked the ball out of his hand and so the game ended. Ultimately, he was able to achieve 68 tackles, four tackles for loss of space, an interception, seven blocked passes and three forced fumbles in his second season and thus take on an important role in the fifth best defense in the NFL. After New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins injured himself in the AFC Championship Game , Barr was able to look forward to a subsequent nomination for the Pro Bowl 2016 on January 25, 2016 .

Personal

Barr's father, Tony Brooks, and uncles Reggie Brooks and Cedric Figaro both played in the NFL. Barr was raised by his mother in Los Angeles, where they moved shortly after he was born.
