James Levi

James Levi (born February 28, 1942 ) is an American jazz drummer and percussionist.

life and work

James Levi claims that his musical development is influenced by Cal Tjader , Elvin Jones , Philly Joe Jones and Pete Escovedo.

Levi accompanied musicians like Herbie Hancock , Jimmy Smith and many others and was a member of Hancock's band The Headhunters . He started a solo career late and recorded his first album as a leader in 2007, on which he was accompanied by Carl Lockett and Tony Saunders.

Levi lives in Oakland, California.
