James Moodie († 1724 ) was a Scottish politician.

Life

James Moodie was born as the second son of James Moodie of Melsetter (see also: Melsetter House ) and his first wife. Through his mother, daughter of James Douglas, 11th Earl of Morton , Moodie had family connections with the Earls of Morton , who were influential in the Orkney Islands . Moodie died single and without descendants in 1724.

Political career

In the general election in 1715 Moodie won the constituency of Orkney and Shetland and moved into the British House of Commons . He inherited George Douglas, 13th Earl of Morton , who won the mandate of the constituency of Linlithgow Burghs in these elections . Moodie was present at all votes in parliament, with one exception, and voted in agreement with the ruling group. He received a compensation payment of £ 400 for his parliamentary work. In 1722, George Douglas rejoined the constituency of Orkney and Shetland and won the mandate again, so Moodie left the British House of Commons.
