James P. Leape

James P. Leape (* 1956 ) is an American lawyer and environmentalist .

Life

James Leape graduated from Harvard College and then studied law at Harvard Law School .

He began his career as an environmental law attorney and participated in environmental litigation in the United States . He advised the Environmental Program United Nations ( UNEP ) in Nairobi , Kenya . He was the co-author of a leading commentary on American environmental law. In 1989 he joined the American World Wildlife Fund , WWF , where he headed global conservation programs for ten years as General Manager. Leape helped to develop the global strategy of the WWF network and represented the WWF in various international bodies. From 2001 to 2005 Leape was director of the conservation and science program at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation , a major US charity.

From 2005 to 2014 James P. Leape was General Director of the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF International) based in Gland .
