Jan Beránek (philosopher)

Jan Beránek (born November 30, 1926 in Jeřišno ) is a Czech philosopher .

Life

After school he left his home village and began an apprenticeship as a mechanic in Prague , also studying at the technical college, where he graduated from high school in 1947. From 1948 to 1952 he took a place at university in humanism . In 1959 he began teaching philosophy at the medical chair. In 1962 Beránek completed his habilitation and was appointed head of the chair from 1965 to 1969. After the dissertation of the chair as a result of the failure of the Prague Spring, he was taken over in the newly established Institute of Marxism-Leninism at Charles University in Prague in the role of lecturer and head of the philosophy department. Here, too, he mainly taught in the medical field and participated in the organization of scientific research. In 1980 Beránek was appointed professor. In 1988 the employment relationship was terminated due to non-adherence to the line. Shortly afterwards he held lectures at Charles University.

Teaching

During his activity as head of the philosophical faculty he endeavored to free the teaching from political propaganda and to align it with the real-philosophical rail, which deals with social problems. He introduced special philosophically and sociologically oriented courses at the medical faculty, which dealt specifically with problems of the health system and created appropriate teaching material for this.

In his research he mainly devoted himself to the philosophical and sociological problems of the natural sciences and medicine.

In his works he deals with questions of the human psyche and its biological preliminary stages, the information carriers and regulators of living organisms, the theory of the development and methodological function of philosophical principles and categories, contemporary understanding of humanism and determinism .
