Jan Gummert

Jan Gummert (* 1963 in Essen ) is a German heart surgeon and university professor. He is Medical Director of the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW, Bad Oeynhausen ( University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum ), and Director of the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.

Life

Gummert studied human medicine from 1982 to 1988 at the universities of Tübingen and Bonn. After receiving his doctorate in 1989, he worked as an assistant doctor in the Clinic for Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University of Göttingen until 1994 and in the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at the Leipzig Heart Center until 1996. As a specialist in cardiac surgery, he received a one-year post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory for transplant immunology at the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at Stanford University , USA. In 1998 he returned to the Leipzig Heart Center as a senior physician, where he was appointed C3 professor for cardiac surgery at the University of Leipzig with a focus on thoracic organ transplantation in 2002 and was Dean of Studies at the Medical Faculty until 2005.

From 2006 to 2009 Jan Gummert was Director of the Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at Friedrich Schiller University Jena . Since February 2009 he has been director of the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia , Bad Oeynhausen, University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum. He is also the medical director of the entire clinic.

Jan Gummert is a member of national and international specialist societies in cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery and transplant medicine, and a member of the board of directors of the German Heart Foundation. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt .
