Jan Kaňka (born December 17, 1977 in Sokolov ) is a Czech composer , trombonist and music teacher .

Kanka played in his childhood first valve trombone , from the age of thirteen slide trombone . His first teacher was Jan Čížek , he studied at the Pilsen Conservatory with Vlastimil Eichler . During his studies at the Conservatory he played in Václav Hybš 's Big Band, the Symphony Orchestra and the Pilsen Opera Orchestra, with which he toured Japan. He continued his education at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Jiří Sušický and is a teacher at the Klatovy Music Schoolactive. In addition, he is still active as a trombonist and as a composer since his student days. Among other things, he composed several trombone quartets, a sonata for trombone and organ and a duet for trombone and violin.
