Jan Bengt Peter Karlsson (born February 8, 1966 in Falköping ) is a former Swedish cyclist .

Jan Karlsson's specialty disciplines were individual and team time trials. In 1983 he was the first Swedish junior champion in the individual time trial, until 1999 he was seven times national champion in one of these two disciplines and four times Scandinavian champion in the team time trial. In 1990 and 1991 he won the French time trial Chrono des Herbiers and in 1997 the Berlin stage race .

Karlsson started three times at the Olympic Games: in 1988 in Seoul , he won the bronze medal in the 100-kilometer team time trial together with Björn Johannson , Michel Lafis and Anders Jarl .

In 1998 and 1999 Jan Karlsson rode under contract for two years, then he ended his cycling career.

Karlsson is the son-in-law of Sture Pettersson , one of the Fåglum brothers , and the father of racing cyclist Magnus Fåglum Karlsson .
