Konrad Schinz
Johann Konrad Schinz (born May 11, 1842 in Zurich ; † April 25, 1910 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Swiss engineer, entrepreneur and diplomat.
Life
Konrad Hinz studied engineering at the Zurich Polytechnic . He became active in the Corps Rhenania there and received it in October 1860. After completing his studies, he went to Russia and established himself as a machine manufacturer in Saint Petersburg. Among other things, he developed a petrol gas light bulb that was improved in terms of light intensity and energy consumption.
In 1878 Schinz was elected Swiss Vice Consul and in 1900 as the successor to Louis Eugène Dupont as Swiss Consul General and Head of Mission in Saint Petersburg. In 1904 he resigned from office due to health problems. He was succeeded by Édouard Odier .
