Louis Eugène Dupont

Louis Eugène Dupont (born August 22, 1839 in Troinex , † December 12, 1901 in Geneva ) was a Swiss engineer, politician and diplomat.

Life

Born as the son of the teacher Joseph Pierre Dupont and Louise b. Godet studied Louis Eugène Dupont engineering at the Polytechnic Zurich . He became active in the Corps Rhenania there and received it on October 31, 1857. After completing his studies, he worked as a tram construction engineer in Geneva . So he built the first tram between Geneva and Chêne-Bourg . In 1866 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Geneva . In 1873 he went to Russia, where he built several tram lines in Riga and Saint Petersburg . In 1875 he succeeded Jakob François Louis Philippin as the Swiss Consul General and Head of Mission in Saint Petersburg. In 1900 Konrad Schinz became his successor. He returned to Geneva, where he died the following year.
