Jang-ot

A jang-ot (장옷) is an outer garment that was used by women in the Joseon Dynasty as a veil to cover the face. The Jang-ot is similar to the Durumagi and the outer jacket of the Hanbok . The difference is that the Jang-ot a collar ( git ) and a ribbon to tie around ( goreum ) has. According to the principles of Confucianism of the Joseon Dynasty, women were not allowed to show their faces to unfamiliar men, so they used various ways of covering their faces outside the home.
