Japan Karatedō Federation

The Japan Karatedō Federation (JKF; Japanese 全 日本 空手道 連 盟 , Zennihon karatedō renmei , 全 空 連 for short , Zenkūren ) is the umbrella organization for all karate styles in Japan . The JKF is subordinate to the Japan Physical Education Association, the Japan Olympic Committee (JOC), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (MEXT). She is also a member of the Asian Karate Federation (AKF) and the World Karate Federation (WKF).

History of the JKF

  • 1964 Foundation of the JKF
  • 1969 Officially recognized as the umbrella organization for karatedō in Japan by the Ministry of Education
  • 1969 The first All Japan Charted Contest is held in Nippon Budōkan ( Tokyo )
  • 1972 The JKF joins the Japan Physical Education Association
  • 1979 JKF adopts the National Sports Tournament demonstration part
  • 1981 Karate officially becomes a part of the Shiga Prefecture National Sports Tournament
  • 1999 The JKF becomes a member of the World Karate Federation

  • 1949 JKA was founded as the first Japanese karate association under Masatoshi Nakayama for the Shotokan style
  • October 20, 1957 JKA hosted the first karate championship in Japan
  • 1964 The JKA joins the Japan Karatedō Federation
  • April 15, 1987 Chief Instructor Masatoshi Nakayama dies; Beginning of the disintegration of the JKA

JKF Shitōkai

  • March 1934 Mabuni Kenwa founds the Dojo Yoshūkan ( 養 秀 館 ) in Osaka and calls his style Shitō-ryū
  • March 1939 Shitō-ryū is officially recognized as a karate style by the Dainippon Butokukai
  • July 1939 The Dai nippon karatedō kai is founded; later the name is Japan Karatedo kai changed
  • 1964 The association officially becomes a member of the JKF and is henceforth called JKF Shitō-kai; Eiichi Tanaka becomes President, Manzou Iwata and Mabuni Kenei become Vice Presidents
  • February 1, 1980 After Eiichi Tanaka's death, the JKF Shitō-kai is restructured as follows: Mabuni Kenei becomes honorary president, Manzou Iwata president and Sadachika Tsujikawa vice president
  • March 1993 On the occasion of the founding of the World Shitō-ryū Karatedō Federation , the first world championships in Shitō-ryū are held in Nippon Budokan in Tokyo

JKF Wadōkai

  • April 1, 1934 , the Dai Nippon Karate Shinko Club is by Hironori Otsuka founded
  • February 25, 1938 The Dai nippon karatedō shinbukai is founded
  • 1947 The Tsukiji main dojo is founded
  • 1952 The official rules for wadō -ryū competitions are set by the new main dojo, the karate club of Meiji University
  • May 19, 1954 A demonstration of the wadō-ryū is given in the Hibiya Public Hall to mark the 20th anniversary of the style
  • May 5, 1955 The first national wadō-ryū championships are held in the Shibuya Public Hall
  • May 1, 1964 The association joins the JKF and henceforth calls itself JKF Wadōkai
  • July 11, 1976 The 12th Wadō-ryū championships are held in the Nippon Budokan; always there since then
  • January 29, 1982 Hironori Otsuka leaves the organization
  • 25./26. August 1989 The first Wadō-Ryū World Championship is held in London
  • August 8, 1990 President Hideo Bo also leaves the organization
  • April 14, 1991 Ryutaro Hashimoto becomes the new President of JKF Wadōkai
  • 1996 Eiichi Eriguchi becomes the new incumbent president of JKF Wadōkai after Ryutaro Hashimoto resigns
