A Japanese horse harness (Japanese: Uma yoroi or Bagai ) is a harness for horses from Japan .
description
A Japanese horse harness is made of leather , silk and lacquer . It usually consists of the following individual pieces:
- Japanese horse forehead ( Bamen )
- Overlay with side protection
- Krupper
The individual parts are made of leather and are shaped and decorated with chisels and darts. A coating of varnishes in different colors is used for decoration and protection against moisture. The underside, which rests on the horse's back, is padded with fabric to protect the horse's skin. The harness is attached with the help of strong silk cords that are attached around the armor parts. It was fastened with three wide silk ribbons. The first led around the entire abdomen and was also connected to the saddle ( Japanese Harubi). The second was led around the chest (Japanese Munagai) and the third was attached to the krupper and also connected to the saddle (Japanese Shirigai). The tank also includes a riding saddle and stirrups as well as a horse's forehead , which are mostly made to match the harness. The horse's forehead was tied around the forehead with a band (Japanese Omozura), another around the ears (Japanese Gashira-gake) and a third band (Japanese Omogai) under the jaw . The coats of arms of the owner or the associated princely house ( Mon ) are often attached to the outside . From the construction and decoration, it can be assumed that this armor was used less for combat and more for ceremonial purposes.
