Jasc Software was founded in 1991 by the pilot Robert Voit , who was well versed in computer science . The abbreviation JASC stands for Jet And Software Company . Kris Tufto was CEO of Jasc Software since 1999 .

Robert Voit began developing graphics applications and making them available to the public in discussion forums . The amount of feedback motivated him to continue working on his main project, the Paint Shop Pro software . Version 1.0 was released as shareware in early 1992. This concept was retained up to version 5.0. The respective German version was translated and published by the authorized editorial office Holger Lakies

Jasc Software was later one of the few large software companies that made the beta versions of their applications available to the public.

The company was taken over by Corel in autumn 2004 to round off its product range.
